Making the oh-so late 80s part of the Broadmarsh Centre look a bit more late 70s. Nottingham 29/10/2011.

La Cupola mall, Puerto de la Cruz. The exterior looks like a typical 90s postmodern Meadowhall style place but only the exterior has been made over- once inside it is one of the most melancholy dying 70s malls I’ve ever seen. The only chain store remaining is Trebol supermarket- the split level central plaza actually reminds me a LOT of the Merrion Centre in Leeds! There’s a pretty great flea market with an excellent selection of Two Ronnies books, a couple of fake designer handbag joints, some forlorn cafes and some sort of adult education centre. But the cast majority of the units are empty making the place feel huger than it is. It’s also full of cacti, which makes perfect sense in the Canaries but as there are more cacti than shoppers I felt like I was in a Day of the Triffids/Dawn of the Dead crossover.
