The Visitors, interviewed in Zig Zag #105, September 1980. Angry young men. I’m not sure what to make of the illustration (it looks like a frame from a Jackie Magazine adaptation of the Joy Division story) but the Visitors are one of my favourite DIY bands.

For my first post I thought I’d share this interview with Edinburgh post punks Visitors from Granite City zine circa 1980. I got the “Electric Heat” single at (sorely missed etc, etc) Archers Records in Leicester in the late 90s purely because I liked the cover and I couldn’t believe how good it was when I got it home. They are probably best known for “Moth” which was on the Messthetics Scotland comp. By the sound of the interview they got sick of playing their “hit” Electric Heat very quickly. It’s certainly the most immediate Visitors track and I love the juxtaposition of grindy bass and plinky keys. It took me a few years to track down the other Visitors 7”s “Empty Rooms” and “Compatability”. They had 3 Peel sessions and were supposed to have recorded an LP for 4AD, produced by Wire (!!!) but sadly this fell through. Shame.
